PreEmptive Solutions Enables Best Practice for Application Usage Analysis

PreEmptive Solutions, the leading provider of solutions to protect, defend, monitor and manage software development investments, announced today a best practice for incorporating application runtime intelligence into lifecycle management and business activity monitoring for both development and enterprise consumer organizations.

Previously available only to a small segment of the marketplace and traditionally difficult and expensive to gather, application runtime intelligence has emerged as a powerful means to measure how enterprises use and experience software. Armed with this new data, enterprises are able to make better, faster decisions related to their software investments.

PreEmptive Solutions best practices enable executables to be injected with application instrumentation logic that streams runtime data to one or more cloud-based repositories. The resulting runtime intelligence can then be integrated into CRM, ALM, and ERP platforms including Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Office solutions.

According to Gartner, Inc., “Business analysts and architects should study business processes to determine where monitoring and near-real-time reporting of key performance indicators would provide a meaningful business benefit. They should proactively offer to implement the relevant operation-intelligence facilities as a part of the application development process,” in Predicts 2009: The Evolution of Key Application Architecture Patterns, December 3, 2008, Anthony Bradley, et al.

“With the increased industry focus on business intelligence, forward-looking companies are searching for new ways to differentiate their products and adapt to changing market conditions,” said Gabriel Torok, CEO, PreEmptive Solutions. “Like other sources of business information that enrich the business intelligence process, the availability of software usage data makes it possible for software producers and consumers to maximize the value of their software investments through more timely and accurate insight into user behaviors and enterprise requirements.”

Leading software vendors agree. “With the release of our K2 blackpoint software, PreEmptive Solutions Runtime Intelligence Service has had a significant impact on our ability to collect feedback from customers throughout our beta cycles,” said Adriaan van Wyk, CEO, K2. “It helps us to focus our product planning, development, and QA resources on shipping only the very best software possible.”

Microsoft Corporation has also included PreEmptive Solutions runtime intelligence technology inside the next version of Microsoft Visual Studio. “With Visual Studio 2010, developers have the ability to monitor and measure application usage and user behavior,” said Matt Carter, Director, Microsoft. “From traditional client-server deployments to the powerful capabilities inherent in the Windows Azure platform and Microsoft Silverlight, runtime intelligence can enable developers to build connected solutions that maximize developer creativity and software quality.”
